Now more than ever it is critical that Share safely and efficiently operate our Backpack, Fresh Food Pantry, Hot Meals and Summer Meals programs.

To-go meals through our Hot Meals program have seen a dramatic increase: 3,700 meals in February, 6,100 in March, 6,852 in April and we anticipate the numbers will continue to go up.

Our costs have increased for various reasons from the need to purchase containers and utensils for each to-go meal; to the loss of volunteers and need to pay staff for the preparation and serving;to changes in sources for discounted food purchase which are no longer available. People accessing meals include those experiencing homelessness and those whose ability to cover daily living expenses for themselves and their families have been challenged by layoffs and furloughing as many businesses remain closed.

Through partnerships with Evergreen and Vancouver Public Schools, as well as the Battle Ground School District, we continue to pack 900+ bags of food that children and their families can access through grab-n-go locations.

Our Summer Meals program will again operate this June to August, altered to provide meals in a grab-n-go style to observe social-distancing protocols.

Unfortunately, Share lost $50,000 in government funding for our meal programs this year due to grant requirements and restrictions. So, we are extremely grateful to have a match pool of $76,500 for our annual appeal (formerly known as our Hunger Appeal), thanks to the contributions of the generous donors listed above.

We serve a vulnerable population. It’s vital that we keep our meal programs fully funded and operating at these increased levels. Your gift will provide children and families, men and women with access to fresh, nutritious food through our Backpack, Fresh Food Pantry, Summer Meals and Hot Meals programs.

We thank you for your continued support of Share and of our community, during normal times and these times of extreme hardship and challenge.
