We keep administrative costs to the barest minimum so that virtually all of your donations go directly to meeting the needs of the people you want to help.
Bequeath a Gift
Many people are unaware that by making a gift in their will or estate plan to Share, they can continue to help people in need long into the future. To discuss some of the options available, please contact Diane Christie at Share (360) 695-7658 ext. 3311.
Meal Preparation and Serving
Time commitment: 2 to 4 hours, frequency is determined according to the volunteer schedule; time commitment varies according to meal and shelter location.
Description: Volunteers work alongside our staff and residents to help prepare and serve meals in our Community Hot Meal Program. Individuals as well as groups are welcome.
Grocery Store Pickup and Delivery Driver
Time commitment: One morning per week; mileage reimbursement available.
Description: Share has a regular “route” with several local grocery stores, with daily pickup of surplus bread, produce and other items. Food is distributed among our three shelters and used to prepare meals. Drivers must have a van or truck, be insured and be able to do some lifting.
Backpack Program
Time commitment: One afternoon per week; mileage reimbursement available.
Description: As part of the Children’s Hunger Program, Share provides food-filled backpacks for children in need. Volunteers work with staff to assemble and deliver backpacks.
Supplemental Delivery Driver
Time commitment: One afternoon per week; mileage reimbursement available.
Description: Deliver additional supplies from Share House to the family shelters. Drivers must have a van or truck, be insured and be able to do some lifting.
Occasional Dontaion Pickups
Time commitment: This is on an occasional and as needed basis, time commitment varies. Mileage reimbursement available.
Description: Pick up occasional miscellaneous donations.
Share Outreach – Day Resources
Time commitment: 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. (walk-in hours), one morning per week.
Description: Assist Share Outreach case managers at Share House in providing basic services to clients, including access to showers, laundry and clothing. This position works directly with clients. Volunteers must appreciate the diversity of our clients and be able to offer nonjudgmental acceptance to people with many different lifestyle experiences and a variety of needs. Though not required, a general understanding of homelessness, low-income issues, alcohol abuse, chemical dependency and mental illness would be helpful. Some record keeping is involved.
