2009 Financial Report

2009 Financial Report
Share is pleased to present our 2009 financial report, allowing us an opportunity to reflect on Share’s accomplishments, which were made possible with the support of our board, staff, volunteers, clients and community supporters.
Share’s 2009 Annual Report
Highlights from 2009 include:
• Share provided shelter for 1,397 individuals, including 276 children; 864 of those individuals had not been clients of Share in 2006-08.
• 1,475 individuals accessed Share Outreach services.
• 1,740 volunteers gave their time in support of Share programs; in all, Share volunteers gave 63, 535 hours to our programs – more than 10,000 hours than in 2009. We are fond of saying that our volunteers are priceless. But, we have found a way to calculate their value. The Independent Sector (a nonprofit group) has calculated that the value of a volunteer hour in Washington State is $19.53. With that figure, we can share that our volunteers provided $1,240,838 of service to our organization in 2009—and we can’t thank them enough!
• Share ASPIRE served an average of 125 households each month and maintained a 70% success rate in moving individuals and families into permanent housing; in 2009, 81 households successfully graduated from the program – that is twice the number that graduated in 2008.
• Share’s annual fundraising events—Mardi Gras Gala, Share-a-Bowl Soup Dinner, Hoops on the River Basketball Tournament and Share Golf Classic—raised a gross total of $385,279 in support of Share’s programs.
• 520 children were enrolled in and 11,000 meals (breakfast & lunch) served at SummerSLAM, while 625 children, and their families, were served through the Backpack Program; both programs served twice as many children as were served in 2008—and community demand to expand the programs continues to increase.
• The Holiday Cheer & Support Program served 2,623 people, 15,036 gifts and helped 578 families through Adopt-a-Family during the holidays; 119 Birthday Boxes and 66 Welcome Home Boxes were also provided to clients.
For 30 years, Share has been a beacon of hope for those who are hungry, homeless or who need a helping hand. We are dedicated to addressing the needs of homeless individuals, families, and the community at large, and are taking steps now to meet the challenges that will influence our effectiveness in the future. We encourage you to give in any way that you can—a bag of nonperishable food items for the Backpack Program, a donation of gently-used clothing to help keep someone warm during a cold night on the streets or an hour of your time to help serve a warm and nutritious meal.
We thank you for your continued support of our organization, giving Share the necessary means to continue providing vital, daily living services to the most needy of our community.
